ONTARIO LAND COVER CHANGES FIELD DESCRIPTIONS
 
CHANGE_PERIOD: Time period of change.

CHANGE_FROM: Old land cover class prior to change.

CHANGE_TO: New land cover class after change. 

LAND_COVER_CATEGORY_LOSSES: Land cover category loss due to change.

LAND_COVER_CATEGORY_GAINS: Land cover category gain due to change.

Land cover classes are assigned into broad categories for determining losses and gains caused by change.

Category groupings: 

Anthropogenic: 51 (built up area-pervious), 52 (anthropogenic) and 55 (transportation).

Cropland: 53 (cropland), 54 (hay/pasture).

Forest: 21 (coniferous forest), 22 (mixedwood forest), 23 (deciduous forest) and 24 (transitional forest).

Other natural: 15 (meadow), 16 (shrubland), 17 (barren), 18 (sparse treed), 25 (hedge row) and 41 (water).

Rare community: 11 (prairie), 12 (savannah), 13 (alvar) and 14 (dune).

Wetland: 31 (coniferous treed swamp), 32 (mixedwood treed swamp), 33 (deciduous treed swamp), 34 (transitional treed swamp), 35 (thicket swamp), 36 (bog), 37 (fen) and 38 (marsh).
